The Arts

At St Mary’s, we have a strong Performing Arts focus, giving the students the opportunity to sing regularly in the classroom and at assembly. Students are also given a variety of opportunities to take part in extracurricular music activities.

Every second year, we undertake a school production where all children are involved.
Our current music program offers instrumental guitar, piano and music craft lessons. Piano and guitar lessons can be taught either individually or as part of a small group. Music craft is an introduction to music theory and is taught in a small group.

Sessions for the St Mary’s School Choir and St Mary’s Recorder Ensemble are held on a weekly basis. The choir consists of students in Years 2-6 and the recorder ensemble consists of students in Grade 3-6. The St Mary’s School Choir represents the school at different events throughout the year.

St Mary’s has a strong community link with Christian Brother’s College where a large number of our students take part in their music program for primary students on a Wednesday afternoon. Grade 4, 5 & 6 students have the opportunity to hire and learn euphonium in a concert band setting.

Students develop Visual Arts skills in a program provided by a dedicated art teacher and supported by classroom activities and volunteer parent ‘experts’. Most activities are carried out in our well-resourced art room.
